National Ice Cream Day is Sunday, July 18, 2021 — a celebration that falls annually on the third Sunday of July when President Ronald Reagan signed off on it. if you're among those who prefer more traditional ice cream, then you will find plenty of ways to take advantage of the national day to get free treats or discounts on some of your favorites.

- Get a free cone at McDonald's after you use the new MyMcDonald's Rewards program for the first time.
- Dairy Queen, Burger King and Breyers have specials for National Ice Cream Day.

For ice cream devotees, the date translates into freebies and specials from restaurants — and Macaroni Kid Gurnee-Vernon Hills has rounded up some of the best throughout Lake County, IL.

- McDonald's: Check the fast-food chain's app for coupons and freebies. And with the new rewards program after making your first purchase you will have enough points to get a free cone.
McDonald's rewards program and free food, deals
Other fast-food chains have also rolled out loyalty programs and apps and McDonald's has been offering savings on its app for years, including offers for free food.
With McDonald's updated app and new MyMcDonald’s Rewards, you'll earn a freebie after you make your first purchase now through Dec. 31.
After your first purchase, you’ll automatically get 1,500 points, which is enough points to get a free item in the first tier on your next order and choice of an order of hash browns, vanilla cone, a McChicken or a free cheeseburger.
Users also will get 100 points for every dollar spent on qualifying purchases. You can order ahead on the McDonald's app or scan a code in restaurants and at the drive-thru to earn points.
The McDonald's app will continue to have mobile deals such as coupons.
Free fries for life contest
This is not the first time McDonald's has given a prize that lasts "for life."
In August 2018, McDonald's had a contest for a McGold card that gave one winner two free meals a week for 50 years. The prize was valued at $52,350.
The World Famous Fan contest kicks off July 13 on World Famous Fan Day and goes through July 20, according to the contest rules posted at MyMcDonaldsFanContest.com.

So Hawaiian Shaved Ice is my new favorite thing. Especially when they “sno-cap” it, which means sweetened condensed milk is poured over the top. You will also find slushee’s, ice cream, and many more frozen treats. You can even have ice cream in the middle of your shaved ice! They don’t have corn, though, so don’t ask, or they will look at you weirdly.

Okay, so it’s not ice cream, but it really isn’t tea either. If you have never had bubble tea, you seriously don’t know what you are missing. But if you have issues with texture, this might not be for you because of the tapioca “bubbles” at the bottom. Think dessert as a beverage or a way cooler milkshake.

12. Breyers: The brand is offering “Cookie Coverage” on its Cookies & Cream ice cream at CookieCoverage.com. At the site, get a $2 coupon for half off a tub and "an official insurance certificate that provides protection on their tub’s cookies & cream goodness."
