Here are some affordable tips as for millions of families hit the road for some fun and excitement this Memorial Holiday.

I know that traveling doing the holiday can be challenging, expensive, and not, but it doesn't have to be anymore no matter where you hit the road traveling with kids. If you have one child or more what way to stop all the squabbling, the whining, constant yelling of Moooom or Daaad he or she hitting me, or the infamous "Are we there yet?  There is a way to get around these things and here's how.

If you are traveling by car make sure you first check your tires, get an oil change and even fill up your gas tank.  Use different Apps to see which gas station has low price gas. Like AAA or any of these below.

1.  Gas Buddy - Free website and App that lets you search for Gas Prices by city, state, zip code, with listings for your car trips. Earn up to 30 cents off a gallon.

  • Gas Buddy on the go APPReport prices, leave and read station reviews, complete fun challenges and win gas cards in our giveaways. All in one convenient app. Available for iPhone and Android.   Use the Gas Price map, Trip calculator, Gas price chart, Fuel insights, and blog.

  • Pay Gas Buddy with the free discount gas card accepted Nationwide - Works everywhere except Exxon and Mobile

You swipe that "Pay with GasBuddy"  discount card at the pump to get the discount.  Save 10 cents off a gallon on your first fill up and 5 cents off every gallon after that. Just use it with your credit or debit card to save.

  • Costco gas station - Where you can enjoy low warehouse prices on name-brand foods, Costco gas and Gasoline products with membership.

  • Waze App - Free app for any road trip warrior; you’ll save on fuel by dodging traffic jams and accidents. Acting as a “community-based traffic and navigation app,” drivers using Waze report prices they find at the pump, and also give other drivers a heads up when it comes to police, accidents, road hazards or traffic jams. works on smartphones and tablets with GPS support. It provides turn-by-turn navigation information and user-submitted travel times and route details.
  •  Sam's Club gas station -    Where you can enjoy low warehouse prices on name-brand foods, Sam's Club gas, car washes, and Gasoline products with membership.

2.  Dining Guide - look on our dining guide list for different restaurants where Active Military and Veterans can get free or discounted meals.

3. Play Games -  I like playing games with my kids either in the car, bus, train, or on the plane.  These fun games can come in handy while keeping your sanity. LOL

  • I Spy - This is essentially the same as 20 Questions, but the chosen object must be within sight. My family plays this every time we go on vacation. The person starts with the phrase, "I spy with my little eye something beginning with..." and says the first letter of the object he or she sees.
  • The Name Game - Someone says a name (e.g. Vanessa), and the next person has to say a name that begins with the last letter of that name (in this case A, so maybe Adam). The third person picks a name that begins with the last letter of the second person's choice, and so on. No duplicates allowed, and they must all be real names. A more challenging version for older kids is names of places with the same rules.
  • Name That Song - Here's one where you can play what's on the radio. If you have a radio on the dashboard like mine that shows the artist's name and song title cover it with a cloth. So no peeking.  LOL Turn it on, move the dial until you hear a song, and see who can name the tune first. Repeat as much as you'd like.
  • Storytelling - One person starts a story, with just a line or two, then stops mid-sentence. The next person picks up the tale and keeps building. No one can take someone else's idea, only build on it. The stories always goes a little silly as you go on.
  •  Etch-a-sketch - A board game that has two white knobs on the front of the frame in the lower corners. Twisting the knobs moves a stylus that leaves a solid line on the back of the screen.
  • Use dry erase markers or erasable markers - Draw on the car windows, play hangman, Tic-Tac-Toe, or write something nice.
  •  Would you ratherWould you rather X or Y?  All parties must answer the question. For example: Would you rather be able to read minds or be invisible?

Other activities that can keep the kids busy are coloring books and washable crayons, license plate game, reading books, puzzles, playing on a Gameboy, educational games, watch a movie on a portable or built-in DVD player.

4.  Packing -  Light healthy snacks, clothes for the season, water bottles, cooler with ice for drinks, small foods, veggies,  and fruits.

Remember to always take breaks in between.
